Lively celebrations – The bridge as a promenade of delight

Be it for the carnival procession, the Basel Tattoo, the Basel City Run, or the big fireworks display on the 31st of July that ushers in the national holiday, the Middle Bridge is transformed into a traffic-free entertainment venue several times a year. In the photos, it takes centre stage. All these events promote local cohesion and have major appeal, also for tourists. Thus, the Middle Bridge not only connects riverbanks, but also people: guests and locals, history and the present, everyday life and exceptional circumstances. Most recently, in 2025, floats, traditional cliques and brass bands crossed the bridge during the Carnival of Basel in March, followed by the ESC parade in May.
